NOMOJO DAY 19

It’s Thursday, and this morning we’re going to our monthly breakfast with Depot friends. The husbands in the group (and some of the wives) are volunteers at the Tehachapi Depot Railroad Museum. The men get together once a week to work on restoration and maintenance of the railroad signals, and to do other maintenance tasks to keep the Museum running smoothly. Our friendship with this group of 18+ individuals began over 7 years ago, as fellow members of Friends of the Tehachapi Depot, began working to restore the Depot and turn it into a first-class railroad museum.

I don’t remember exactly when we began celebrating together each month–suffice it to say it’s been well over 5 years. We also get together for Chinese food on the 1st of January each year, a tradition that Robert and I shared with the group. Robert and I have gone for Chinese food on January 1st of every year for more than 45 years. We do it as a celebration of the New Year, believing that Chinese food at the New Year brings good luck. For the last three winters, Robert and I have been at our home in Arizona. The first winter we missed the New Year celebration with our friends, they decided that they liked the tradition so much that they would carry on with it without us! This last New Year’s we surprised them by showing up at the restaurant before anyone else. What a surprise that evening was. We just might make it again this coming New Year’s Day. With my physical therapy and other doctor’s appointments popping up, our departure for Arizona keeps getting pushed further and further away.

Progress on my wall hanging is coming right along and it will get finished today. Then I’ll return to pinning the grandson’s quilt and getting it quilted. I still have next Thursday as my goal for completion. I should make it, with no problem.

I use hair clips to hold the binding on before stitching it down. They work really well and I can buy them at the dollar store so they’re inexpensive.

Breakfast was outstanding, as usual, and I brought half of my omelette back home and will have it for lunch or dinner today.

A quiet day at home, working on my sewing projects — perhaps a break to read a bit, or take a nap; nothing urgent at all. Tomorrow’s plan is to go to Bakersfield and get new tires on the Honda in preparation for our trip to Arizona.

Until next time, be safe, be well, and please be happy. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them. Beyond all else in life, love is the most important thing we have going for us.

“Birth it??” Thanks for the compliment on my entry — I have about 6″ left of the binding to stitch and then the rod pocket on the back needs to be sewn on. I’ll post a photo of it completed tomorrow. I think there’s some rods around the house somewhere.
