View From My Window

Friday, November 26, 2021 — Today has been quiet as a church mouse! I did get my first row done on my Victory quilt and discovered I’d misread the directions. <sigh> But all is not lost, the quilt will just be a different finished size than what the directions said it would be. Instead of squaring up and trimming the two half squares, I added the white border and THEN trimmed. Consequently, they turned out a wee bit different than I expected.

Pieced and trimmed — first row

Other than this, my new Pizelle machine arrived and I made my first batch of cookies. I used Anise flavoring, although the recipe book suggested Lemon and other flavors.

Not much else going on so will close with blessings to all. Be safe, take care of yourself and be sure to tell those you love that you love them.

About tehachap

Happily married and retired, my hobbies are quilting, reading and anything to do with trains (watching, photographing and running them in our G scale garden railroad). My husband and I have truly enjoyed our retirement, and have fulfilled one of our primary goals in life and that is to own a home overlooking train tracks so we can watch trains 24/7. We are sincerely blessed in this life.

I’m sure your red, white, and blue quilt will uniquely be yours. Good luck with it. And congratulations on the new cookie maker. You have a lot more ambition than I. If I bake it, I eat it. Therefore, I don’t often bake.

Thanks… I’m sure that however that quilt turns out, someone will love it. And I have only eaten one of the Pizzelles–for some reason they don’t appeal to me as much as the other cookies/goodies I make, but then I hadn’t drizzled any chocolate on them yet either! LOL

Until I started doing dinner two times a week mostly what I cooked was the occasional desert or soup. Stopped doing deserts last year when my blood sugar came out high.

Yes, I too stopped baking when my sugars came out high. I do like those pretty cookies tho. I like the quilt too. What is it supposed to look like? No sashing?

Yes, the quilt will have sashing–white between the rows. I think it’ll turn out just fine. The Pizzelles aren’t that high in sugar–thin and crisp. I’ll have to look to see what the sugar content is — they can always be made with Splenda. They’re very quick to make, so I’ll make a lot of them and dress them up with powdered sugar and chocolate drizzles (there goes that sugar load!) LOL
